My Top 5 Films for a Rainy Day

films stacked

Now that we have reached October the usual rainy weather has begun. The last few days I have been woken up by the patter of rain outside and I often find that when bad weather comes, so does me being in a bad mood. In order to counteract the rain I put together my top five films that I watch when it is raining and I want to cosy up under a blanket and relax.

There were many other films that I wanted to include but I managed to condense it down…

So here are my top five films to watch on a rainy day!

The Book of Life

The Book of Life is a fairly recent animated film that has fast become one of my favourite films. It features Channing Tatum as a voice, plenty of awesome songs- including some well-known songs like I Will Wait, Creep and Can’t Help Falling in Love. It is sweet, funny and beautifully animated. It is also bright and colourful, the perfect film to chase away the grey sky outside.

Spirited Away

Spirited Away is a film that I have loved since its UK release date in the 2003. It was my first introduction to Studio Ghibli, one of the best studios for beautiful animation and brilliant storylines.  It is sweet and generally a film that always helps me feel peaceful. The film features a lot of beautiful blue sky and water, perfect for a rainy day! Other great nominations for a rainy day by this studio include My Neighbour Totoro, Howls Moving Castle and Ponyo.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

I didn’t expect to like this film as much as I did. My boyfriend and I bought it in a deal because the trailers were good and for around £10 it didn’t seem like that great a loss if we didn’t like it- compared to the price of watching it in the cinema. However we both loved it. It is a feel good film that makes you want to get up and do more with your life, and to do what you want to do without just letting time slip away from you. The music in the film was amazing, and I often listen to the soundtrack! I love Ben Stiller in it and there were so many quotes in the film that I found inspiring. Its tagline is ‘Stop Dreaming. Start Living’. I find it a really uplifting film!

Guardians of the Galaxy

I had to include at least one Marvel film in this list so I put in one of the funniest and most cheerful! I love Chris Pratt, so was always going to love this film. The film is awesome and the soundtrack is brilliant. There is action, jokes and serious moments. It really is just the film to get you out of your rainy day funk. Also, Groot.

The Princess and the Frog

Disney has always been one of my favourite film studios. I had a really hard time choosing just one film for this list, and found it difficult to narrow down which one. In the end I chose Princess and the Frog because it is an uplifting film with great music, beautiful animation and a great message of working hard to get where you want to be- but not missing out on life in order to do so. This is a brilliant film to snuggle up with. But really, on a rainy day there are so many amazing Disney films that you can watch to cheer yourself up!
